Why Visit Bagh-E-Bahu?
Know Before You Go
The timing of Bagh-e-Bahu in Jammu is from 8 am to 9 pm. This Bahu complex includes India's unique Underground Aquarium, the exquisitely maintained Bahu Fort, the Bagh e Bahu Terrace Garden, and the Bawe Wali Mata Temple.
The Bahu Fort in Jammu is believed to have been constructed about 3,000 years ago by Raja Bahu Lochan. It was renovated in the 19th century by the Dogra kings. For religious reasons, the fort has a temple to the Hindu goddess Kali, who is the protector of Jammu.
As per the history of Bagh e Bahu, Raja Jambu Lochan witnessed a tiger and a goat sharing a drink in the Tawi River. He took this as a sign from the gods to establish his new capital here. As a result, the fort was constructed by his brother, Bahu Lochan, and the surrounding garden was named Bagh-e-Bahu.
Agnigarbha II, a powerful ruler of the Jammu line of Suryavanshi kings, is the father of Raja Jambu Lochan and his brother Bahu Lochan. They are the first people in history who are known to have been connected to the fort. Bahu, Agnigarbha's eldest son, is said to have founded the city of Jammu as well.
Bahu Mela is a big fair that takes place in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is hosted at the Mahakali Temple, which is located at the Bahu Fort. The event takes place twice a year, in September and October and March and April.
