The Aurora Ice Museum, located at Chena Hot Springs Resort near Fairbanks, Alaska, is the world’s largest year-round ice environment. It was built in 2005 by world champion ice sculptor Steve Brice and his wife, Heather Brice. Constructed from over 1,000 tons of ice and snow, the museum is a showcase of artistic ice sculptures and offers a unique experience of frozen beauty in a controlled, sub-freezing environment.
The interior of the museum is kept at a constant temperature of 25°F (-4°C). Its dazzling sculptures include life-sized jousting knights on horseback, a giant chess set, and an intricate igloo, all made entirely of ice. The museum also features ice chandeliers, which replicate the colors of the northern lights (aurora borealis) through fiber-optic lighting.
Visitors can sit at the ice bar and enjoy an "Appletini" served in a glass made of ice. The museum is open year-round, making it accessible even during Alaska’s warmer months. Guests are provided with warm parkas to explore the chilly interior comfortably. The Aurora Ice Museum combines art, adventure, and the magic of the arctic, offering an unforgettable experience for those visiting Alaska.
