ADAMS PEAK

Located at a height of more than 2000 metres, the Adams peak is a mountain with religious and cultural significance. It is known to be a holy place for Hindus, Buddhists, and Muslims and has a conical shape. With the best views from the top, this mountain also comes with six hiking trails worth exploring.

Adam's peak is a tall mountain of religious significance located in central Sri Lanka. This mountain is of religious significance for both the Hindus and the Buddhists. While the Buddhists believe that it has the footprint of Buddha, the Hindus believe that it is the footprint of Hanuman. The mountain is more than 2000 metres tall and is in a conical shape. It is alternatively known as Mount Lanka, Ratnagiri and Malayagiri.

In fact, this mountain is also the origin point of three rivers- Kelani, Walawe and the Kalu Ganga. The mountain comes with six hiking trails that come with the best views from the top. Even prominent travellers like Fa Hien and Marco Polo have written about this hill during their travels. Apart from being a cultural landmark, Adams Peak also has geographical significance and continues to attract tourists from around the world.

How To Reach

1 By Car: The Yala National Park is 130 kilometres away from the heart of Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. Therefore, if you're driving, the Avissawella road will get you to the Adams peak in 8 hours. You can also take a shared taxi from major cities like Kandy or Colombo.

2 By Train: Hatton is the closest railway station to Adams peak. From there, you can take a car or a tuk tuk to Dalhousie- the base of the Adams peak. 

Best Time To Visit

The Adams peak is open on all days of the year and comes with all types of experiences and activities.

1 Best day of the week: You can visit Adam's peak at any day of the week as it is open throughout the year. However, we recommend visiting the Adams peak during the weekdays as there is less crowding and you can explore comfortably. 

2 Best time of the day: Travel to Adams peak at any time of the day, preferably between morning to afternoon. At this time, you can explore the Adams peak patiently and explore all that it offers. 

Other Essential Information

• You are more likely to come across fog during the day, so plan your climb accordingly. 
• You can climb Adam's peak both in day and night, but the day is warmer. 
• There is a higher possibility of crowds during the fool moon days due to the religious significance of the mountain. 
• You will come across people impersonating as monks and will tie a bracelet to your wrist and ask for a donation, so make sure to decline any. 
• You do not have to pay any money to climb the Adams peak, so it is free of cost. 
• The top of Adam's peak can get pretty windy at times, so plan your climb accordingly.
