Achalgarh Fort Overview

Built in the 9th century, Achalgarh Fort is an architectural marvel situated in Mount Abu, Rajasthan. The fort was built by the Paramara Dynasty and was later renovated by Maharan Kumbha in 1452. A tour of this majestic fort offers a glimpse into the tales of bravery, battles, tragedy and sacrifices of the Rajputana family.  

The architecture of Achalgarh Fort is an impressive blend of Rajput and Mughal styles. The fort has massive gateways and courtyards which are adorned with intricate carvings. By Car: Achalgarh Fort is located at a distance of around 9 km from the city centre of Mount Abu. You can reach the fort in approximately 23 minutes via the Oriya road. You can either take a local taxi or take your own private vehicle to reach the fort.

Achalgarh Fort is a year round attraction in Mount Abu which can be visited any time of the year.  You can visit the fort on the weekdays if you wish to avoid the crowds of the weekend and explore peacefully. You can plan your visit to the fort during late afternoon so that you can witness the beautiful sunset from the fort.

During your tour of the Achalgarh Fort, you will come across its ancient temples. You can offer your prayers at these temples exactly where the royal family members used to pray. One of the major Hindu temples is the Achaleshwar Mahadev Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is over a thousand years old and is believed to have the toe of Lord Shiva as the main idol. It also has a huge statue of Nandi, the sacred bull of Lord Shiva, made of five metals and weighing tons. Additionally, there are several ancient Jain temples inside the fort, reflecting religious diversity in the region.
