Trek To Mount Kanamo In Himachal Pradesh

Itinerary

• Day 1 -

  Reporting and Acclimatization

  Report at Rumsu base camp, by 10:00 AM.

  Rumsu village is 5 km from Naggar. Those who are coming via bus from Delhi or Chandigarh, get down at "Patlikuhal" from there you may board a cab to Rumsu.

  After registration, go for an acclimatization walk to the neighboring village.

  Adventure activity will get kick started after orientation in the evening.

• Day 2 -

  Drive to Chandrataal Lake

  Start the day very early by 4:00 AM with a jeep ride to Chandrataal Lake.

  The road to Chandrataal goes via Rotang Pass (13,054 ft), Chatru ( 10,890 ft ) and Batal.

  Stay overnight near the lake.

• Day 3 -

  Drive to Kibber via Kunzum top and Ki Gompa Monastery

  After breakfast you will start the day with a jeep ride to Kibber village (14,000 ft ) via Kuzum top (15,000 ft) and Ki Gompa Monastery (13,900 ft ).

  Ki Gompa that is located at an altitude of 4,166 meters, is the biggest monastery of Spiti Valley and a religious training centre for Lamas.

  The jeep ride gets to an end at Kibber village that is located 16 kms away from Kaza.

  Kibber lies in a narrow valley on the summit of a limestone rock.

  Stay overnight at Kibber village.

• Day 4 -

  Trek to Kibber to Mt. Kanamo base camp

  After breakfast, get the packed lunch and start your trek to Mt. Kanamo base camp.

  The entire route passes through a cold and dry desert kind of area with a few green patches.

  Spot some blue sheep, yak and flowers of the cold desert en route.

  It takes around 6 hours to reach to the camp site.

  Stay overnight in tents.

• Day 5 -

  Climb to Mt. Kanamo peak (6,000 meters)

  Post breakfast and get the lunch packed.

  You are supposed to carry a minimum of 2-3 litres of water.

  Also keep Glucon D and ORS handy.

  Start the trek at 4:00 AM so that you can cover the maximum part of the mount before the sun comes overhead.

  The route has two steep ascends before reaching the summit. Each of the climb will take an average of 2-3 hours each.

  Then descend toward the base camp that takes around 4 hours.

  Stay overnight in tents at the base camp near the mount.

  Total duration is 12 hours.

• Day 6 -

  Descend to Kibber

  After a heavy breakfast, head out to Kibber village.

  The descend to Kibber from base camp takes around 3 hours.

  Stay overnight at Kibber home stay.

• Day 7 -

  Drive to Manali and departure

  Start the day with a jeep ride to Manali via the same route.

  Depart Manali at around 6:00 PM.??
