Gulmarg Gondola Overview

Gulmarg Gondola is the second highest and second longest cable car ride in the world. This cable car ride is divided into two phases up to the Apharwat Mountain. The first phase takes you from Gulmarg Resort to Kongdoori Station. In the second phase, you can move from the Kongdoori Mountain to the Apharwat Peak. After reaching the top, you can catch stunning views of Mt.Nanda Devi and the Pir Panjal Ranges.

The Gulmarg Gondola is the second largest and second longest cable car ride in the world. You can take the ride with Kashmir tour packages and capture the panoramic views of the surrounding Pir Panjla ranges. It is a major attraction of Kashmir, ferrying hundreds of people to and from the Apharwat Mountain.

Gulmarg Gondola is divided into two phases. Phase 1 starts from Gulmarg Gondola and reaches Kongdoori Station at an elevation of 2,990 metres. Every hour, it transports around 1,500 people to a height of 3,100 metres. Upon reaching the top, you can take part in various beginner-friendly skiing runs near the station.

Moving forward, Phase 2 links the Kondoori Mountain to the Apharwat Peak. It ascends to nearly 4,000 metres. This phase transports 600 people per hour to the mountain to let them enjoy a 30-minute trek to the top. On the ride, you will see panoramic views of the Line of Control (LOC), the stunning Nanda Devi, and the Pir Panjal Range. Besides the scenic views, the Gulmarg Gondola offers horse riding and snow skiing activities as well.

Gulmarg Gondola is situated in the Pir Panjal Range in the region of Jammu & Kashmir.

1. Taxi- Taxi is one of the fastest and most comfortable modes of transport to reach the Gulmarg Gondola. You can book a taxi from the Gulmarg Railway Station to reach the starting point of the Gulmarg Gondola. It will take you just 5 minutes to cover a distance of 850 metres and reach Gulmarg Gondola.

2. Hike- Hiking is an exciting yet tiresome way to reach Gulmarg Gondola. It will take you approximately 2 to 3 hours to walk from a small town named Tangmarg to the Gulmarg Gondola.

3. Horse Ride- If you are looking for an adventurous way to reach Gulmarg Gondola, you can hop on a horseback. You will get one from the Gulmarg Parking Lot. It will take you 30 minutes to ride to the boarding point of Gulmarg Gondola, covering a distance of about a kilometre. 

Best Time To Visit

Gulmarg Gondola is a year-round tourist destination. You can visit this attraction at any time of the year, irrespective of the seasons and months.

1. Best Season- The best time to visit Gulmarg Gondola is between May and June and then from September to December. During these times, the place enjoys the summer and winter seasons, respectively. It is the perfect time to undertake horse riding and skiing activities.

2. Best Day of the Week- There is no specific best day of the week to visit Gulmarg Gondola. However, it is advisable to visit the attraction on weekdays rather than on weekends to avoid the crowds and enjoy the attraction peacefully.

3. Best Time of the Day- Visit the Gulmarg Gondola early in the morning between 8am to 9am During this time, you will experience less rush and you can avoid long waiting lines as well.
